Class action lawsuits and why they're important.
All too often fraudulent and illegal business practices go undetected, especially when they result in small amounts of money taken from a large group of people. It is not economical for a single person to bring an individual lawsuit. The potential recovery may be too small to warrant individual litigation because the costs of litigation would exceed the amount of the recovery.

A class action lawsuit, sometimes referred to as a private attorney general's action, is one solution. The class action device allows an individual to represent a group of similarly situated individuals who have been harmed from a common business practice. Individuals with relatively small dollar claims or non-monetary harms can aggregate their claims and hold the company responsible for its wrongdoing.
